What is an Advanced Diploma of Engineering?
An Advanced Diploma of Engineering (MEM60122) gives students the specialised skills, knowledge and experience needed to become a mechanical engineering technician, associate or paraprofessional. You’ll learn more advanced technical and practical skills in computer-aided drafting (CAD), producing drawings for specific designs and interpreting drawings for the manufacture of equipment, such as electrical and mechanical machinery and equipment.
This course is ideal for those looking to progress their career in STEM into more advanced areas of the automotive, gas, oil, manufacturing, mining and mineral processing industries. With our hands-on approach to coursework and our industry-experienced trainers, you’ll have the support, knowledge and confidence to take on the next level of your career.

What can I do with an Advanced Diploma of Engineering?
Engineering-based industries, including mining, make up more than 78% of the Australian export market. This takes into account the work engineers do on designing, scoping and project management across a range of industries, including infrastructure, mining, rail, utilities, IT and more.
An Advanced Diploma of Engineering opens up your pathway to a successful career in paraprofessional mechanical engineering roles, including hands-on roles in designing, manufacturing and repairing some of the most critical equipment and machinery around the world.
These are just some of the roles you can explore with your Advanced Diploma of Engineering from Outsource Institute:
- Engineering Project Officer
- Engineering Development Officer
- Engineering Estimator
- Engineering Technical Officer
- CAD Drafter
- Control Systems Engineer
- Mechanical Engineer
What is the difference between a diploma and an advanced diploma of engineering?
A diploma in engineering will have varying levels of specialisations and course levels, while an advanced diploma of engineering is a specific advanced qualification for higher levels of education. Whether you choose a diploma or advanced diploma in engineering will depend on your current skill set and your career pathway.
At the Outsource Institute, we offer both diplomas of engineering and advanced diplomas of engineering. Having specialised in the engineering education field for more than 20 years, we work with students to find the right pathways to help get them to their goal career.
