Skills Assure – Funded By The Queensland Government

The Skills Assure program provides public funding for the delivery of accredited, entry level to advanced
trade training to apprentices and trainees.

The program works in conjunction with the Commonwealth Australian Apprenticeships System, under which
apprentices and trainees (also known in some jurisdictions as “Australian Apprentices”) enter into legally
binding training contracts with their employers and receive structured training to achieve a nationally
recognised qualification.

The Skills Assure program enables apprentices, trainees and their employers to select a preferred Registered
Training Organisation (RTO) from a list of pre-qualified Suppliers for the delivery of accredited training
to meet their specific needs.

Will I need to contribute to the cost of training?
The majority of the costs of the training are covered by the Queensland State Government, however, there is
a State Government mandatory Student Tuition Fee requirement, a Co-Contribution Fee and an Enrolment Fee is
payable by either the employer or the employee. The final amount payable will not be known until after
enrolment when any Credit Transfers or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is completed and the amount of
required Gap Training is identified.

If Gap Training is required, it is charged at $1.60 per nominal hour.

Northern Territory

USER CHOICE PROGRAM – FUNDED BY THE NORTHERN TERRITORY GOVERNMENT

The objective of the User Choice Funding Program is to increase the responsiveness of the vocational education and training sector to meet the needs of clients through the encouragement of a direct and market driven relationship between individual public and private training providers and clients.

User choice funding is provided to registered training organisations to provide training and assessment to apprentices and trainees to achieve nationally recognised qualifications.

The User Choice Funding Program allows employers, together with the apprentices and trainees they employ, to choose which registered training organisation (RTO) will provide them with the training and assessment services and to negotiate key aspects of the training such as where, how and when it will be provided.

Under the NT User Choice Funding Program, approved RTOs are funded for the provision of accredited training and assessment services to apprentices and trainees based on the nominal hours of the qualification paid at the appropriate industry rate. An additional loading is applied to training and assessment services provided to students in regional and remote areas.

Will I need to contribute to the cost of training?
The majority of the costs of the training are covered by the Northern Territory Government, however, there is a Student Tuition Fee requirement and an Enrolment Fee is payable by either the employer or the employee. The final amount payable will not be known until after enrolment when any Credit Transfers or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is completed and the amount of required GAP training is identified.

If Gap Training is required it will be charged at $1.60 per nominal hour. Maximum $2,200.00 for full qualification.

I completed the Advanced Diploma in mechanical engineering with Outsource Institute, all at distance and self paced. This was the only institute in QLD that had the full AD available online. I found the teachers to be very responsive and helpful which is critical when studying at distance. The resources and content were all well set out and have given me a good base of knowledge to build from while working in engineering. Thank you Outsource Institute.
